BEFORE BOOKING

Identification Requirements

In addition to a form of payment, if you are over the age of 18, all you would need is a valid, government issued photo ID such as an Illinois state ID, Drivers license, visa, or passport. Unfortunately we can not accept a military ID due to the fact that we must attach a photo to your release form. Replicating a military ID (which belongs to the federal government) is prohibited.

If you are a minor, you must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Both minors and guardians must have a valid, government issued ID. Identification that works for a minor can include a passport or birth certificate as well.

Please contact us if you need any clarification about our ID policy before arriving and we will happily assist you.

Age Requirements

We offer earlobe piercings starting at age 6 years old and up. If earlobe piercings are wanted before 6 years old, a consultation must be scheduled and completed with a legal guardian present. It is up to the piercer’s discretion if a piercing appointment can be made.

We offer traditional cartilage/helix piercings, and nostril piercings on minors who are age 13 years old and up with proper legal guardian consent and proper identification. If these piercings are wanted before 13 years old, a consultation must be scheduled and completed with a legal guardian present. It is up to the piercer’s discretion if a piercing appointment can be made.

We offer alternative cartilage piercings such as industrial, conch, tragus, and rook piercings, navel piercings, and eyebrow piercings, on minors who are age 14 years old and up with proper legal guardian consent and proper identification. If these piercings are wanted before 14 years old, a consultation must be scheduled and completed with a legal guardian present. It is up to the piercer’s discretion if a piercing appointment can be made.

We offer oral piercings, including lips and tongues on people who are 18 years old and up with proper identification. If these piercings are wanted before 18 years old, a consultation must be scheduled and completed with a legal guardian present. It is up to the piercer’s discretion if a piercing appointment can be made.

We offer nipple and genital piercings on only people who are 18 years old and up with no exceptions.

In order to be pierced without a legal guardian present you must be 18 years old and up.

How should I physically prepare for my piercing?

We suggest eating a well balanced meal approximately 2 hours before your arrival. We also strongly encourage being hydrated, and getting a good rest the night before.

If you are getting an ear piercing, we suggest styling your hair up, and avoiding chemical hair products such as mousses, sprays or gels, and fresh color to keep the surface of your ears clean. (We always have hair pins if needed, as well.)

Please do not come to the studio under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We understand that piercing can be very nerve-wracking and spontaneous. If you arrive intoxicated, you will not receive services.

For body piercings such as a navel, we recommend loose fitting or athletic clothing for your comfort. High waisted and restrictive clothing articles can make unwanted contact with the piercing, and they can be uncomfortable after the piercing is performed.

Can I bring guests with me?

Guests are certainly allowed at the studio. Feel free to bring friends and/or family members for fun and moral support. That being said, every person in the studio is expected to have great behavior and listen to the directions of Old Traditions staff members. A body art studio is sensitive in nature due to cleanliness and safety and therefore needs to be treated with a high level of respect.

Minors are allowed in the studio with an adult receiving a service, although we do encourage other arrangements, especially for children under 12. We absolutely do not allow any minors under the age of 18 to be unattended in the lobby or piercing rooms. If an adult is receiving a service, we require an additional adult on the premises to accompany any minors.

We understand the finding childcare can be difficult. Please reach out if you need to reschedule an appointment and we will happily oblige with no penalty.

Can I take photos and videos?

We allow videos and photos to be taken in the lobby. If you would like to document the actual piercing process, we require explicit consent from the piercer.

Can I bring my own jewelry?

You certainly may bring your own jewelry to be inserted into a healed piercing. Depending on the quality of your own jewelry, we may recommend either purchasing something of better quality from Old Traditions or charge a service fee for inserting jewelry of low quality, to the piercer’s discretion. We will not insert low quality jewelry into a healing or irritated piercing, even for a fee.

You also may bring your own jewelry to be pierced with. The chances of us being able to use it, though, are slim because of our very high quality standards. Before your piercing, we can examine your jewelry and decide if it will be safe to use during your appointment.
