What jewelry and materials does Old Traditions use?

Why do we use the materials that we do and nothing else?

When you get a new piercing it is very important to have proper material in your body.

A fresh piercing is a wound! Jewelry worn inside of that wound is exposed to all types of biomaterial!

Suitable metals used at Old Traditions:

Implant Grade Titanium, Gold, and Niobium

  • 14-18k Gold:

    • Nickel free or Palladium Based

    • Higher than 18k is not reccomended in body piercings as it can be scratched and cause irritation due to texture and excess bacteria

  • Niobium

    • The APP Recommends niobium to be as pure as possible - 99.9% Niobium or higher. This is sometimes referred to as “999 Niobium”

    • Similar to Titanium but is softer and heavier

    • Unlikely to react to bodily fluids, oxygen, or cleaning agents

  • Titanium:

    • The quality recommended for use by the Association of Professional piercers (APP) is titanium that is certified to meet ASTM or ISO standards for surgical implant applications.

      • ASTM F136 Compliant

      • ISO 5832-3 Compliant

      • Commercially pure ASTM F67 Compliant

    • Lightweight

    • Virtually nickel free

    • Corrosion resistant

    • Unlikely to react to biomaterial

    • Can be anodized to create a layer of colored oxide on the surface

    • All of our “posts,' i.e. labrets, curved/straight/circular barbells are made of Titanium
